One can take a 5 minute ferry ride across the Swan river which will bring you to
South Perth, and this area also offers apartment hotels.
Fremantle has enjoyed a new lease of life ever since it became the first non- USA
home for the Americas Cup. There is also a run down prison in this area that was
renovated and now accommodates tourists in Fremantle Prison. The Fremantle boat
harbours offer great quayside accommodation overlooking the Indian Ocean as well
as the Swan River.
Scarborough is almost 15 km north of Fremantle and offers great surf beaches where
one can jump in and enjoy a swim. Many top class hotels are located here and it is
now wonder why. The area is very beautiful. There is the newly developed Hillarys
Harbour near the Sorrento beach. Lots of restaurants and trendy boutiques, will make
this area well worth a visit.
Near the northern part of Perth is Yanchep, which offers fishing, golf and great walks
through the Yanchep National Park.
One can take a ferry to Rottnest Island where there are excellent beaches and peaceful
surroundings.
The Perth Hills are situated on the east side of the city. There are great bed and
breakfast establishments along here that offer great views of the city.
Swan Valley has a great golf course to entertain your concentration in complete style.
For the backpackers, try the area around the Perth Train Station. Northbridge also has
hostels available for the weary students looking for some kip after their million mile
journeys. Fremantle has its fair share of back packer accommodation as well as
Scarborough Beach which has a few hostels to cater for the surf enthusiasts.
